Our People
Michael Kelly Principal Solicitor
Michael Kelly is the Principal of the firm having taken over from Treasa Howell in October 2020. Michael trained as a solicitor in a busy city centre firm before moving to a well respected South Dublin firm for a number of years. Michael has extensive experience in litigation, particularly the areas of personal injury, family law, medical negligence and employment law. Michael also has a number of years experience of conveyancing, probate, wills, and enduring powers of attorney.
Michael is a Commerce graduate of UCC. Michael qualified as a chartered accountant and worked for over 10 years in finance before embarking on a career in law. His experience of working with businesses both large and small is of huge benefit in helping businesses deal with any issues that arise in a practical and cost-effective manner. The broad range of Michael’s experience is a huge addition to the firm and complements the existing staff in place.
Michael qualified as a solicitor through the Law Society of Ireland and is also qualified to practice in England and Wales. Michael is a member of the Irish Family Lawyers Association and the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association.
Ann Mangan, Senior Assistant Solicitor
Ann has over 25 years’ experience as a solicitor with a particular expertise in all areas of residential and commercial conveyancing, acting for both property buyers and sellers. She also advises clients in the purchasing, selling and letting of all types of commercial property. Ann also provides expert legal advice in relation to Landlord/Tenant Law.
Throughout her career Ann has developed extensive knowledge in the area of wills and probate. She also has wide-ranging experience in District Court Litigation, including in the area of prosecution. Ann has a personal interest in other areas of Law, particularly in wardship and care of the elderly. Ann has the sort of experience that puts any client at ease, through her extensive know-how and of course her approachability and friendliness.
Ann holds an Honours Degree in Law from University College Dublin. She qualified as a Solicitor through the Law Society of Ireland. She also holds a Diploma in European Law from UCD. Ann earned a Certificate in Commercial Contracts from the Law Society. This, along with a Fetac level 5 in Bookkeeping has proved invaluable in her dealings with clients from the commercial world.
Rachel Smith, Legal Executive
Rachel joined Howell Kelly in September 2017 initially as a Legal Secretary. She has since qualified as a Legal Executive.. She has diverse practical legal experience and her knowledge is spread around numerous areas including family law, personal injuries, medical negligence, probate and wills. Rachel’s skill with people also comes to the fore when dealing with clients going through the experience of being involved with the legal system. Her sensitivity and knowledge is vital to our work and her management of personal injury* and medical negligence* files are exemplary. She is aware of clients’ personal experiences and works with many people in difficult circumstances. Her organisational skills, her training as both a Legal Secretary and Legal Executive and her people skills means she brings a lot to the firm and its clients.
She is used to dealing with the public and a wide range of clients. She’s professional, polite and trustworthy and a great person to have around. Rachel makes things run smoothly. She may be the first person you meet in Howell Kelly Solicitors and her welcoming approach, knowledge and attention to your needs is a real asset to us and our clients.
Rachel has trained for her Legal Secretary Diploma through Pitman Training. Rachel holds a Dilpoma in Law from the Law Society of Ireland.
Suzanne Donovan, Legal Executive
Suzanne is a Legal Executive with considerable experience working in Conveyancing. She primarily assists Ann Mangan with the conveyancing side of the practise. She has worked in a number of large Commercial firms in Dublin acting on behalf of individuals buying their first home and also developers bringing large developments to the market.
Suzanne has a large amount of experience in working with people buying their first home, trading up, selling or remortgaging and will help to guide you through every step of the process. Suzanne has been a huge addition to the firm since joining in 2022.
Mercedes Ruiz Soler, Legal Secretary
Mercedes is a Legal Secretary with considerable experience working in the legal profession and other busy office environments. She handles front of office duties and phone calls as well as greeting clients on their visit to the office. She also assists Michael Kelly with the family law and litigation side of the practise.
Suzanne has made a huge impact to our office since joining the firm in early 2024.
